Updated!

Welcome to the Department of General Academic Programs at Texas A&M University. The General Studies major is designed to accommodate students needing time to complete course work necessary for entrance into a major course of study.

Some students begin college with no idea about what major to select, and the majority of students change majors at least once. General Studies provides students the opportunity to explore various majors without committing to a specific degree plan. In addition, working with a professional academic advisor in General Studies can help minimize the number of hours lost when a student changes from one degree plan to another.

If you already know what you plan to major in, that's great! If you still are a bit unsure, we want to help you choose the major that is right for you! Our goal is to provide you with the resources necessary to make your transition to college a smooth one.

ATTENTION:

The next application deadline for University Studies is April 1. Students interested in applying to University Studies must request an appointment by no later than March 1.

Beginning December 1, 2009, all students will be required to show a photo ID when checking in to meet with an academic advisor.
