CORE CURRICULUM

Core curriculum requirements must be met by every student pursuing a baccalaureate degree program regardless of major.   Individual degree programs may require that specific courses from the general university list be used to satisfy core curriculum requirements.

Always check the degree plan for majors you are considering to make sure the course you choose for a particular core curriculum category is one that meets requirements for the particular major(s). The only courses that are required for all majors are ENGL104, POLS206, POLS207, and one American history. MATH151 and 171 will also count for a math requirement for all majors, but are more difficult than other math options for many majors. If you have questions on core curriculum courses, please see an Academic Advisor in General Studies.

The Core Curriculum requirements for Catalog 130 are:

  • Communication (6 hours)
  • Mathematics (6 hours)
  • Natural Sciences (8 hours)
  • Humanities (3 hours)
  • Visual and Performing Arts (3 hours)
  • Social and Behavioral Sciences (3 hours)
  • U.S. History and Political Science (12 hours)
  • International and Cultural Diversity (6 hours)
  • Kinesiology (2 hours)

To view the description for each requirement, and to see a list of courses which satisfy each core curriculum requirement, see Catalog 130 from the Office of Admission and Records website.
